It’s true … PE & Sport Premium Funding Doubled – September 2017!
Here at FUNDA we are delighted to announce that the Department for Education has confirmed that the PE & Sport Premium Funding will be doubled from September 2017.
This afternoon’s Secretary of State’s announcement on school funding, also includes a section reconfirming the commitment to Primary PE & Sport Premium being doubled from September 2017.
The DfE has made the following statement:
“We appreciate there’s been some uncertainty in the sector on this, and would like to thank you for your patience and support as we have awaited ministerial decisions.”
“I know that you have been working to ensure the sector is best placed once the doubling comes into effect, and we will continue to work with you and other partners to support the delivery of the premium and to develop guidance and best practice resources for schools.”
“We also understand that schools are keen to know how much funding they will receive so that they can plan for the next academic year, and are seeking to communicate high level principles in preparation for the new academic year. These will be announced in due course, however, we can confirm that all schools will see an increase in their premium allocation.”
“The Government is committed to ensuring that all schools are fairly funded and that money is invested in the most effective way. After careful consideration, we have therefore decided not to proceed with the proposed healthy pupils capital programme, in order to provide more money to schools through their core funding instead. Schools can, of course, choose to invest their core funding in PE and Sport.”
Kieran Fletcher the founder of FUNDA said:
“FUNDA is delighted to hear that the Government will continue to invest in physical education. The doubling of the funding formula will help schools to continue to use physical education and physical activity as a tool to improve educational attainment, emotional and physical health and well-being. The key word here is Physical Education and not just sport. I do hope that schools choose to spend their funding on this topic investing in your teachers now for the future sustainability of your school.
